Renee
Weisband (Sylvia Gellberg)
When I was six years old my father and I watched Larry Parks
in 'The AL Jolson Story. After that, I knew I wanted to be Al
Jolsen. Along the way there have been many detours but I have
always approached life as an actor. I have been lucky to play
many characters such as Peter in "Peter Pan; Winthrop Peru
in "The Music Man"; Amanda in "Glass Menagerie";
Lorraine in "The Man Who Came to Dinner", as well as
Lillian Hellman In "Immaginary Friends", Maggie in "Jake's
Women" and Edna in "The Prisoner of Second Avenue"as
well as many others. That is not to discount commercials for
products from a Grip-it Wrench to a Philco Air Conditioner which
ran in Japan as well as print work for General Foods.
As a certified teacher I have started theater programs in schools
and done summer workshops with the New Jersey Governor School
Scholars at TCNJ. I have been teaching privately from my studio
for over 15 years. Some of my kids have finished their conservatory
work and are now working in many areas of theater as well as
many who have gone on to become lawyers and doctors. Check it
out at www.renees-studio.com. I have been the producing artistic
director at Isis Productions for the past 2 years. My dream as
a teacher and as a proud member of AFTRA, SAG and EQUITY is to
one day have a performance space (40 by 60 black box with a 20'
ceiling). This space would be a center where young actors, dancers,
musicians and writers would have a venue for their work. It would
be a space where kids could have the best teachers in one space
who would be available to them at all times.
